National Treasure · Unified Silla period · Boeun-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do
Presumed to have been made in 720 when Silla was under the rule of King Seongdeok, this rare stone basin is 1.95m in height and 6.65m in circumference. This large, exquisitely carved, water container is marked by an octagonal pedestal propping a three-tier support plus a band of downturned lotus petals, and a post decorated with a cloud design supporting a stone lotus pond which appears as if containing lotus blossoms floating on water. It displays unique artistic techniques with balusters showing close similarities with those of the Dabotap pagoda in Bulguksa Temple.
