National Treasure · 조선 성종7년(1476) · Gangjin-gun, Jeollanam-do
Painted on the wall behind the images of seated Amitabha Triad enshrined in Geungnakbojeon Hall, this painting shows, just like the statues, Amitabha Buddha flanked by two bodhisattvas, Avalokitesvara and Ksitigarbha. A postscript written on the lower part of the painting shows that it was painted in 1476 by a group of painters led by Seon Master Haeryeonunder the auspices of scores of devoted Buddhists including Kang Jil who served as the Magistrate of Asan. The painting is generally regarded as a masterpiece marked by a harmony between the Buddhist painting style of Goryeo and a new style introduced during early Joseon.
