A pagoda is a symbolic monument enshrining the relics or remains of the Buddha. In many cases, a pagoda does not contain the actual remains, but is still regarded as a sacred place enshrining the Buddha.
This three-story stone pagoda is presumed to have been made around 835 during the Unified Silla period (668-935).
It is composed of a two-tiered base, three sets of body and roof stones, and a part of decorative top. The stone platform under the base and the stone railing surrounding the pagoda were added in the 1930s during the Japanese colonial period (1910-1945), when the Japanese authorities repaired this pagoda.
