Treasure · Unified Silla period · Dong-gu, Daegu
The three-story pagoda erected on a double-tiered stone base prepared on an earthen platform is typical of stone pagodas with a three-story body on a double-tiered base built during the Unified Silla period. The body and the roof of each story are also made of a single stone block. The top of the pagoda is characterized by square roof-shaped Noban, reversed bowl-like Bokbal, and cintamani-shaped Boju. A "Sarira," Buddha relics, was discovered on the first story of the pagoda body during the restoration of the pagoda in 1967.
The inion on the outer surface of the Sarira chamber says that the pagoda was built in 863(the 3rd year of Silla King Gyeongmun) to commemorate Silla King Minae, who was killed innocently in the process of struggle for the throne.
