This 87cm wooden Buddhist sitting image was made in1748(the 24th year of King Yeongjo). The right hand is raised, and the left hand rests on it leg. The thumb and the middle finger are in contact. These hand positions are typical of Amitabha, the Buddha of mercy.
Curly hair is twisted to the right like a conch shell, and a big topknot gem is on the top of the head. The face is expressionless, and typical on Buddhist images of the latter part of the Josean Dynasty period.
Inside the image of Amitabha, four sheets of prayers reveal the background of this image were a yellow Korean jacket, pieces of glass and crystal wrapped in a cloth-waapper. These relics enhance the value of Buddhist image, and they are important in the study of the latter part of the Joseon Dynasty period.
