Treasure · Unified Silla period · Boeun-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do
This 2.13m tall bodhisattva statue consists of three parts, body, offerings, and square pedestal laid upon natural rock. The face is heavily marred but the slim, attractively curved waist and the arms supporting the pedestal are expressed in a realistic manner. The bodhisattva wears a kasaya over the inner robe with a string with decorative knots and outer depicted in a coarse manner. The realistic expression of the arms supporting the incense burner, and the decorations on the chest and robe folds shows that it was made in the same year, probably 720, when the temple’s twin-lion stone lantern was erected.
