Treasure · 고려 공민왕 7년(1358) · Buyeo-gun, Chungcheongnam-do
This memorial stone, which originally stood in the Bogwangsa Temple Site in Imcheon-myeon, Buyeo-gun, records the achievements of the Nation Preceptor Wonmyeong (1275-1339: also known by his pen name Chunggam) and his role in the reconstruction of Bogwangsa, a Buddhist temple.
The epitaph and its title are known to have been composed and handwritten by renowned men of letters of Yuan, China - the epitaph composed by Wei Su and inscribed by Yang Chi and the title inscribed in seal script(zhuanshu) by Zhou Baiqi. The inscription was re-engraved by the head monk, Neung-il, in 1750 after the original inscription was defaced and rendered illegible.
The memorial’s simple composition, an angular slab erected on a pedestal, is characteristic of stele of the late Goryeo Dynasty.
