Treasure · 시대 미상 · Nonsan-si, Chungcheongnam-do
These documents, span six generations of the Namyang Jeon Clan from the 15th to 18th centuries. They include 23 royal edicts, one document concerning inheritance, and three family register documents. The royal edicts include appointments to official posts and certificates of passing the preliminary state examination.
This collection of documents was kept in one family for generations, and therefore is an invaluable source of information on family structures, inheritance systems, and the socioeconomics of Korea between 15th and 18th centuries. For example, in an inheritance document from 1565, Jeon Hwa promised to leave land and slaves to his eldest son Jeon Gyeong-eop on the condition that he will observe ancestral rituals.
