Treasure · Unified Silla period · Namwon-si, Jeollabuk-do
This octagonal stone lantern, erected during the Tongil-Silla period, was based on the typical style of that time. However, it is different from ordinary stone lanterns because of the round janggu-shaped pillar (a Korean traditional drum). It is characterized by another small circular roof on the roof. The various patterns including lotus flowers are carved magnificently on the support, the pillars and the main portion. There are large square windows on eight sides of the body.
