Treasure · Unified Silla period · Namwon-si, Jeollabuk-do
This stupa was erected to the memory of monk Hongcheok from the late Tongil-Silla period. Its design is similar in style to the stupa of the monk Sucheol, his pupil. Hongcheok who had been to the Dang dynasty of China preached Zen Buddhism and opened the Silsang temple for the first time. The carved door pattern is semi-circular, and the lock and doorpull were engraved delicately. The roof is engraved delicately by modeling it on the shape of a wooden pagoda. It is 2.4m high and a masterpiece to indicate the outstanding sculpture from the late Tongil-Silla period.
