Treasure · Unified Silla period · Namwon-si, Jeollabuk-do
This typical octagonal stone lantern, made during the Tongil-Silla period, is preserved relatively well. The design method carving the lotus flower and railing on the cornerstone is the same as that of the adjacent three-tiered stone pagoda. Accordingly, they seem to have been erected in the ninth century. It is 2.5m tall and has square windows on every other side of the octagonal main portion. There is little decoration on main portion and support pillar, and the roof is curved slightly and level. This stone lantern has a simple shape as opposed to that in front of the Daeungjeon in Silsang temple.
