Treasure · Goryeo period · Namwon-si, Jeollabuk-do
This Buddha image, which was made by cutting a side of a rockwall and embossing a sitting Buddha on it, is a typical Buddha statue from the Goryeo dynasty. A legend states that a monk named Doseon carved it for just one night. It is unique that the light of Buddha is expressed with stringed beads. The clothing hung over its left shoulder is expressed by a simple line. Its round face, lips, eyes, nose and ears are carved vividly. Its broad shoulder, fat arms and legs express realistic beauty and active appearance.
