Treasure · Joseon period · Gimje-si, Jeollabuk-do
This is a Buddhist worship hall enshrining a statue of Vairocana, the Cosmic Buddha, who represents the truth body (Dharmakaya). The building's name. meaning “hall of great peace and light.” refers to the Buddha’s brilliance emanating out to all places.
It is unknown when this building was first established. However, it is known to have a two-story roof. In 1823, it was rebuilt to have a single-story roof. Based on the differences among the intricate bracket structures directly below the roof. it is presumed that the materials from the original building were reused during the reconstruction.
Inside the hall, there is a clay seated Buddha triad (Treasure). Vairocana is depicted at the center with Bhaisajyaguru (Medicine Buddha) and Amitabha (Buddha of Western Paradise) to each side.
