A Daeseongjeon is the main sanctuary which houses 27 Wipae including Confucius. This building is famous for its size and structure, and it is also considered a valuable material in studying the Confucian architecture. It has been said that the mud-plastered wall of this building was made with the earth brought from the hometown of Confucius and that the Seonggyungwan(the most prestigious educational institute in the Joseon Dynasty) was rebuilt after the Imjinwaeran (the Japanese invasion of Korea in 1592) following the structure of the main sanctuary of Naju Hyanggyo. This building is estimated to have been built first when Naju Hyanggyo was established in the Joseon Dynasty. The style of the present building-belongs to that of the middle Joseon Dynasty. Form the record in the 19th year of King Heonjong's reign that the size of the main sanctuary could be compared with that of Seonggyungwan, this building is believed to have been a large-scaled one at that time. According to the building was remodeled in the 6th year of King Gojong's reign(1869) and in the period from the 33th year of King Sunjo's reign to the 3rd year of King Heongjong's reign(1833-1837), and in the 32nd year of King Gojong's year(1906).
