Treasure · Goryeo period · Damyang-gun, Jeollanam-do
A pagoda is a symbolic monument used to enshrine relics or remains of the Buddha. In many cases, a pagoda does not contain the actual remains, but is still regarded as a sacred place enshrining the Buddha.
This five-story stone pagoda is presumed to have been made during the Goryeo period (918-1392). The pagoda inherits the characteristic features of pagodas from the earlier Baekje period (18 BCE-660 CE), such as short tiers and flat roof stones.
