Daeungjeon ("Hall of the Great Hero") is a Buddhist worship hall for the veneration of Sakyamuni, the historical Buddha who lived in ancient India.
Daeungjeon Hall of Neunggasa Temple, which serves as the temple's main worship hall, dates to the mid-18th century. Measuring five bays in width and three bays in depth, the building features a hip-and-gable roof supported by brackets installed atop both the pillars and the lintels. The brackets and the eaves are ornately decorated with lotus designs and Buddha images, while the pillar tops are adorned with carved dragon heads.
The building holds great historical and architectural value for its particularly complex decorative carvings and for demonstrating important aspects of Buddhist temple architecture in the southern coastal region in the late period of the Joseon dynasty(1392-1910).
