This Amitabha Triad Buddha Statue, the main Buddha statue in Geungnakbojeon Hall(National Treasure) is flanked by Avalokitesvara odhisattva and Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva statues. While the Amitabha Statue is made of earth, the other two statues are wooden structures. The Amitabha Statue maintains Padmasana(cross-legged sitting position) that conveys a stable body ratio. The Avalokitesvara odhisattva Statue, on the other hand, wears a flamboyant crown and maintains Ardhaparyanka(one leg rests folded) position with its left leg hanging while Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva Statue wears a bandana and maintains Ardhaparyanka with its right leg hanging.
The Amitabha Statue is believed to have been created in the late 15th century during the same period that the Mural Painting of Amitabha Triad Buddha(National Treasure in 1476) was created. It shows the combination of the Buddhist art styles of the late Goryeo Period and early Joseon Period and serves as an important cultural property to understand Buddhist Statue making in the early Joseon Period.
