Geungnakbojeon is a Buddhist worship hall enshrining a statue of Amitabha, the Buddha of Western Paradise. It is believed that all beings who call the name of Amitabha while reflecting on his meritorious virtues can be reborn in the Buddhist paradise of the West.
Geungnakbojeon Hall of Cheoneunsa Temple was built in 1774, during a reconstruction of the temple complex. Right under the tile roof, there are many intricate support brackets that help distribute the roof’s weight. Four thin pillars are placed under the ends of the roof for additional support. There are two dragon head-shaped decorations on top of the building’s center pillars and also on the roof. Inside the hall, there is a coffered ceiling and wooden canopy decorated with elaborate patterns and sculptures. The colorful paint on the walls and ceiling is in good condition.
