Chuwondang is an ancestral shrine built by the initiative of Gosan Yun Seondo (1587-1671) in 1649 (the 27th year of King Injo's reign) to perform the ancestral rite for Yun Gyeong, the third minister of the Ministry of War, and Yun Sabo, the Tongregong-direct ancestors of the Deokjeongdong clan of the Yuns from Haenam. Chuwondang has double eaves and a hipped and gabled roof with five Kans(unit for the space between two pillars) on the front side and two Kans on the side. Arched supports stand on the four corners. Chuwondang was remodeled for maintenance three times since its establishment, and keeps its original shape in relatively good status. It is estimated that the servants' quarters were constructed in the same period as Chuwondang. The grand tall gate with double eaves is important data to show the architectural style in Joseon during the 17th century.
Chuwondangkeeps 93 woodblocks of the Yuns; genealogy from Haenam designated it as Treasure. It was made in 1702 (the 28th year of King Sukjong's reign) and well-kept so far. Those woodblocks show the clan consciousness of the Yuns from Haenam and provide important historical data for research on the social structure in Joseon during the 18th century.
