Treasure · Unified Silla period · Sangju-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do
This statue depicts a standing Buddha and is made from a single stone together with its halo. Based on the overall proportions and simple facial features, it is presumed to have been created during the Unified Silla period (668-935).
Due to severe erosion, the details of the statue are difficult to verify. The robe over his shoulders is expressed as an outline. The halo, which represents the Buddha's radiating light, was expressed in the shape of a flame around the head, rather than a circle as is more common.
