Treasure · 조선시대 중기 · Yecheon-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do
This is the men’s quarters of the Chogan Head House of the Chogangong Branch of the Yecheon Gwon Clan.
The men’s quarters, like the rest of the house, was built by Gwon O-sang, the grandfather of Gwon Mun-hae (1534-1591, pen name: Chogan), a civil official and scholar of the mid-Joseon period.
Because it looks like a separate building from the front, it is called the detached quarters (byeoldang). However, at the back, it is connected to the women’s quarters. The building features a tall foundation and a narrow wooden veranda with a balustrade around the front. There is a wide wooden-floored hall on the right and an underfloor-heated room on the left.
There are elegant decorations on the ceiling inside, which is not typical of an ordinary private house.
