Treasure · 조선시대 초기 · Gyeongsan-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do
This Buddhist temple was originally by Priest Simji-wangsa in 835. the 10th year of Silla King Heungdeok-wang.
A fire destroyed the temple in the late Goryeo period. The temple was twice rebuilt in 1635 and 1887. According to the legend, the temple was prospered and visited by too many people. The head priest, tired of visitors, filled the pond up, as a visiting priest advised him. Strangely enough, as soon as the work began, a lowing golden calf came out form the pond and flew toward Donghwasa temple. The fire was broken out immediately after that, but only the daeungjeon hall and the suweolgwan remained intact. The interior of daeungjeon hall is beautifully decorated with the wooden craft works which were partly replaced and coloured afresh in 1976.
