This seated iron Buddha at Hancheonsa Temple is an outstanding piece typical of the Buddhas in the latter half of the Unified Silla period when many iron Buddhas were produced. The face of the Buddha, whose mandorla and pedestal are missing, give an elegant yet static impression. The robust upper part of the body, stout shoulder, heavily set chest, and springy legs -- all these display an outstanding motif that is rarely seen among the Buddhas in the final period of the Unified Silla. The attenuated upper part of the body, rather flat nose, and protruding raphe of the philtrum are typical features of the Buddhas in the latter half of the Unified Silla period. This Buddha is regarded as one of the best iron Buddhas from the final years of the Unified Silla period.
