Treasure · Goryeo period · Gimcheon-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do
This standing stone image on a flat granite is believed to have been sculptured in the 10th century. The face of the image is full and round, the eyes are long and elated, and the ears are long enough to reach the shoulders. Generally, the image gives an aura of dignity. On the other hand, with a hint of a smile at the corners of the mouth, it wears an expression of generosity. On the neck are carved the three folds. The body looks majestic and proportionate. The left hand, resting on the chest and downward to the earth, is holding a lotus blossom. The ritual hand pose is sculptured vert realistically and naturally. Most characteristically, the image is putting on shoes decorated with flowers, while other Avalokitesvara Bodhisattvas are generally barefoot.
