Flagpole supports are a pair of stone pillars set up to support a flagpole which was used to mark Buddhist temple precincts by hanging flags or to celebrate special events and large gatherings by hanging banners.
These flagpole supports are located to the northwest of the site of Bomunsa Temple. They are presumed to have been made sometime after the mid-8th century.
The supports are partially buried underground, so their full height is uncertain. The outer part of the top of the supports features an ornate carving of an eight petal lotus, which is a design not found on other flagpole supports. On the top inner part of the support is a groove, into which a metal belt was inserted to secure the erected flagpole.
