Treasure · Unified Silla period · Gyeongju-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do
This stone pagoda is presumed to have been built in the 9th century during the Unified Silla period(668-935). It was found collapsed with its parts scattered around the vicinity. The area was excavated in 2000-2001, and the pagoda was re-assembled in 2002.
The base section is made of eight large square-cut stones stacked in two tiers, on top of which three slabs of stone were stacked as a support for the first-story body stone. Pagodas with bases made of square-cut stones can be found only in the Gyeongju area. The base and the body stones do not feature any decorative carvings. On the corners of each roof stone, there is a hole where a wind chime would have been hung.
