Treasure · Joseon period · Cheongsong-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do
This pavilion was built in 1428 by Ha Dam (?-1456), the local magistrate. It was used to hold banquets for foreign envoys and literary contests for local scholars.
The building was repaired in 1688, but was destroyed by fire at a later point and was reconstructed in 1792. The current building was renovated in 2008.
"Changyeong" in the pavilion's name means "to revere and praise," and it is related to Queen Consort Soheon (1395-1446), the wife of King Sejong (r. 1418-1450) of the Joseon dynasty (1392-1910). Soheon was from the Cheongsong Sim Clan and was highly revered as a virtuous queen not only by the royal court but also by the ordinary people of Joseon. Her family grew into a prestigious family, and the administrative status of Cheongsong, her hometown, was elevated to honor her dignity.
Inside the pavilion are wooden plaques with poems composed by renowned scholars and writers of the Joseon period, including Seo Geo-jeong (1420-1488), Kim Jong-jik (1431-1492), Hong Seong-min (1536-1594), and Song Si-yeol (1607-1689).
