Treasure · Unified Silla period · Hapcheon-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do
This is a typical Shilla [B.C.57~A.D.935] stone pagoda with a two-tiered pedestal and three tiers. The slope of the roof stone is gentle but at the corners, the roof is turning up. The roof has four layers of ruffles. Only the bottom of the top section remains. Granite stones are set around the pagoda. Each part of the pagoda, finely finished, demonstrates harmony and symmetry and a nimble carving technique. This representative pagoda of the ninth century is 4.85m high. Samguksagi [History of the Three Kingdoms] records that Choe Chiwon, a famous calligrapher and scholar, came to divert himself at Cheongryang Temple.
