Treasure · Goryeo period · Miryang-si, Gyeongsangnam-do
A pagoda is a symbolic monument enshrining the relics or remains of the Buddha. Although not all pagodas contain the true remains, they are nonetheless worshiped as sacred places that enshrine the Buddha.
This three-story stone pagoda is presumed to have been made during the middle period of the Goryeo dynasty (1046-1274), around the same time as the founding of Maneosa Temple in 1181. At that time, the temple’s main worship hall was built behind this stone pagoda.
This pagoda is composed of a single-tiered base, three sets of body and roof stones, and a decorative top. It is presumed the decorative top was added at a later time.
