Treasure · Unified Silla period · Yangsan-si, Gyeongsangnam-do
The Stone Seated Buddha of Yonghwasa Temple measure 125cm in height, and includes a well preserved stone pedestal and mandorla. It is said that this statue was moved from its original location at a temple site in Sangdong-myeon, Gimhae, to Yonghwasa Temple in 1947. The satue was produced in the late Unified Silla Period, and all its parts, including the shoulders, upper body, arms and legs, show a fine aesthetic sensibility with regard to the dimensions and proportions. The mandorla is carved with flame, lotus and cloud designs, and is regarded as something of a rarity as it features a small Apsara design on its upper part.
