Treasure · Unified Silla period · Sancheong-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do
A pagoda is a symbolic monument enshrining the relics or remains of the Buddha, Although not all pagodas contain the true remains, they are nonetheless worshiped as sacred places that enshrine the Buddha,
This three-story stone pagoda was built circa the 9th century during the Unified Silla period (668-935). It was severely damaged in the 1950s by thieves and renovated in 1961.
The pagoda measures 4.8 m in height and consists of a two-tier base and three sets of body and roof stones. It originally would have had a decorative top, which has since been lost. The corners and sides of the base, as well as the corners of the body stones, are carved to look like pillars. The roof stones have a relatively flat slope, with their eaves slightly curved upward and their undersides carved into four tiers.
