This hanging painting, painted in 1730 by 20 monk painters including Uigyeom, depicts the scene of the Buddha’s lecture at Vulture Peak. It measures 7.68 m in width and 11.36 m in length.
Such large paintings were displayed outdoors on special occasions such as the Buddha’s birthday, outdoor rites, and the funerals of eminent monks.
In this painting, Sakyamuni is portrayed in the center, with two other buddhas and four bodhisattvas illustrated around him. He is wearing a thick robe, exposing his right shoulder, and raising his left hand to his chest.
The storage chest for this painting was made in 1731, one year after the painting itself. It measures about 8.07 m in length, 35.3 cm in width, and 30.7 cm in height.
Exquisite metal decorations are attached to its surface, and the history of its production is written in ink on the underside of the lid.
