This Buddhist image was created by Buddhist monk Cheonghuh in 1640 who was well-known as a sculpture Buddhist monk at that time.
Initially, this image had been one of the Buddhist images enshrined in Yeonsoosa in Mt. Deokyu(the present Gamak-san), Geochang, and it was moved to Shimwoosa(Pogyodang) for enshrinement when the temple was newly built in the 1970s.
The Buddhist image is neat in its general looks, and its characteristics lie in the wrinkles of the canonical dress and voluminous expression of the lower ends of the dress drooping between the knees.
In its looks, horizontally lined eyebrows linked to the triangular flat nose, half-open eyes looking like being in concentrated Zen, and slightly heightened corners of its tightly closed mouth are expressed on a voluminous square-shaped clear-cut face, showing a solemn appearance on the whole.
The wooden Armitabha Buddha seated image in Shimwoosa is evaluated as precious data for the research on the history of Buddhist sculptures because its production year and purpose are clearly recorded.
