Treasure · Joseon period · Namhae-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do
Daeungjeon is a Buddhist worship hall enshrining a statue of Sakyamuni Buddha. This hall is also the main hall of Yongmunsa Temple. It was first built in 1666 by Monk Ilhyang and renovated in 1773.
The building features many brackets supporting its hip-and-gable roof, with brackets atop each pillar and two between each pillar-top bracket. At the top of each corner roof bracket, there are carved wooden dragon heads. Inside, the coffered ceiling is painted elaborately and features an ornate wooden canopy and carvings of various sea creatures such as turtles, crabs, and seaweed. The hall enshrines a Buddha triad behind which is a Buddhist painting. Along the back wall of the building, a banner painting (Treasure) measuring over 9 m in height is stored in a long wooden chest.
