This buddha triad consists of a main buddha, Amitabha, seated in the center, with Avalokitesvara (Bodhisattva of Great Compassion) and Mahasthamaprapta (Bodhisattva of Wisdom and Strength) on each side.
Amitabha is the Buddha of the Western Paradise, and it is believed that all beings who call the name of Amitabha while reflecting on his meritorious virtues can be reborn in the Buddhist paradise of the West.
This buddha triad was made in 1651 by Monk Muyeom. He was a renowned monk sculptor who was active in the early and mid-17th century. It is presumed that his artistic activities reached their peak in the 1650s. He also formed the largest monk sculptor group, sharing similar techniques and styles. The Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva triad (Treasure) in Myeongbujeon Hall was also made by him in the same year.
